I applied to be a volunteer - what is my application status?

Please email volunteer@sugarlandtx.gov to inquire about your application status. In the email, please include the name of the account holder (i.e. if you are asking about your child's account, please include your child's name in the email).
At times, applications have already been processed and welcome letters sent out. This is why it's important to add volunteer@sugarlandtx.gov to your email contact list. This helps our messages from being filtered out as junk/spam mail.

How long does it take to process my application
It usually takes anywhere from 3-5 business days, dependent on how quickly all application materials are returned to staff.

Can I earn court mandated hours?
Yes. For court mandated hours, please fill out the Court Mandated Volunteer Application by going to volunteer.sugarlandtx.gov ' Get Involved' Court Mandated Volunteer (select either the Under 18 or Over 18 Application)
Please note court mandated volunteers can only volunteer at the Animal Shelter from 8-10AM, Monday-Friday, cleaning kennels. A schedule must be setup beforehand with the Volunteer Office.
You must still submit the parent consent form if under 18, and complete a background check if over 18.

Can my group volunteer at the Animal Shelter?
The shelter does not have the spatial capacity to accommodate group volunteers. Therefore, we recommend reaching out to the shelter directly to see what their needs are, and then organize a donation drive for them. Another option is to coordinate with Parks and Recreation to do a park cleanup. Everyone in your group would have to fill out a volunteer application.

What types of volunteer opportunities do you have?
Please check the "News" section on the volunteer website - that is where all current volunteer opportunities can be found, new ones are added all the time. We do not list Animal Shelter shifts under "News" because extra training is required for that.

My child is 13, can they volunteer?
Serve Sugar Land volunteers must be 14 years or older - even if a parent offers to accompany them.

How can I volunteer at hospitals or libraries?
Volunteers would need to contact those entities individually as the City of Sugar Land does not own/operate them.
